We don’t know who first called ladies intimate garments “unmentionables,” but we think this is the perfect time to mention them. The bras, panties, slips and other delicate underthings that make you feel pretty deserve proper care. Your lovely lingerie is an investment in beauty. Whether you paid full price at an upscale department store or saved a small fortune by taking advantage of money-saving Zivame coupons, it’s utterly imperative that you carefully clean and care for your finest intimates. Here’s how:
Buy with care
Begin with excellence. When shopping for ladies undergarments, buy the highest quality you can afford. Ensure that underwires are where they belong, and make certain any buttons, bows or bangles are attached securely. Check seams and don’t buy anything that looks or feels shoddy. Good panties, bras, teddies and garters are worth buying and worth taking care of, too.
Store lingerie carefully
Proper storage of your dainty delicates will help to ensure that your silky slips and beautiful brassieres stay nice looking for a long time. Dedicate a drawer or two to nothing but undergarments. Stack bras atop one another spoon style, and never, ever turn cups inside out. Fold panties and stack neatly, or roll them to make the most efficient use of drawer space.
The more ornately decorated your lacy underthings, the more carefully they should be stored. Don’t cram them into one drawer where fanciful ribbons, beads, decorative trims and whatnot are likely to become damaged. Place carefully, and your efforts will be rewarded.
By all means, add a scented sachet to your undergarments drawer, if that is your preference. Just be careful that the sachet cannot stain any of the delicate fabrics or elastics it may come into contact with.
Cleanse with care
The way you wash your delicates is just as crucial as the way you store them. Know your fabrics. The labels on your brand new panties and bras are there for a reason. Read them to have a basic understanding of how each item should be washed.
Hand wash everything. Yes, everything. Fill a sink with lukewarm water, and add a dash of Woolite or other mild detergent. For a delicate fragrance boost, try a lightly lavender-scented detergent, and swish like-colored undergarments until clean. Rinse with cool water until all traces of suds are gone. It only takes a few minutes and is well worth the small effort to preserve your prettiest things. Hand washing is appropriate for underwear and lingerie made of cotton, polyester, nylon, rayon and blends. Some silk undergarments may be hand washed, but some may require dry cleaning. Again, this is a reason to read the care label on every delightful delicate you own.
If you absolutely must use a washing machine, enclose your delicates in a net lingerie bag, and use the gentlest cycle possible. Remove prior to the spin cycle and gently press between thick bath towels to absorb excess moisture. Lay garments flat to dry.
Your nicest underwear, bras, teddies and slips will look better and last a lot longer, if you take care of them properly.
