Remember, when someone asked you what you were going to be when you grow up, and your answer was a space ship designer? But now you find yourself working in accounts. At an office downtown. Monday through to Friday. With the only excitement being when someone brings in cakes because it’s their birthday. Well, it doesn’t have to be this mundane as there are real jobs out there that incorporate childhood fantasies with realities!
Not only are they real paid jobs, but they are also not as unrealistic as some childhood fantasies can be as with a bit of hard work and the right career path, then you can find yourself in one of these awesome jobs!
The Disney Version
It’s not just Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck that work at Disney Land you know. One of the coolest jobs around must be the job of the Disney Imagineer where they dream up the most entertaining, creative and exciting idea they can muster and then work on building it, writing it or creating it, dependant on which area they have expertise in.
Every aspect of a Disney theme park has initially come from the mind of an imagineer and because of this, the Disney Imagineers have a huge range of backgrounds such as engineers, graphic designers, set designers, and architects but to name a few.
So the great thing about this job is that once you’ve identified what your passions for being creative are, you just need to work out how to successfully apply for one of the top universities as working for Disney is a very competitive job so having a degree from them will give you that professional edge.
If using your imagination is the key to happiness for you, then a career at Legoland is the way forward! As a designer at Legoland, you have responsibility for design, engineering and building all the sculptures and features out of, you’ve guessed it, Lego!
There are hundreds of sculptures at Legoland from life-sized animals including giraffes and elephants through to replicas of some of the world’s most famous landmarks.
But a career in Lego is going to take a bit more than just sitting on the carpet learning how to build trucks! You’re going to need to obtain a degree in either architecture or engineering from another of the top universities.
Travel the World
This job is a bit more elusive and probably depends a lot more on luck than the previous jobs as with those; you work hard through academia, then progress onto those cool jobs. Whereas this next job is more about being in the right place at the right time.
A travel blogger does exactly what it says on the tin in that it is someone that travels the world and then posts blog updates about it. They get paid to post on some, or all of their posts, mainly by hotels and tour operators and show the world what they are missing if they decide not to go there!
But, although anyone can start a blog, it takes a blog with a certain amount of authority and credentials before you can start charging salary worthy amounts and this can take a long time to build up. Even then there is no guarantee you’ll be able to command the fee you want as thanks to social media; there are many willing travel bloggers who are always going to fight off the competition by offering lower fees, or even for free.
Something that you love
Everybody’s aim in life should be trying to have a job where it doesn’t feel like work, and every day you feel blown away that you are getting paid to do something you love! The thing is, what makes you happy may not come across as the coolest job in the world but if you can do what you love and love what you do, then who cares if it’s classed as a cool job!
Work out what you love to do and then see if you can forge a career from this and if the salary is enough to help you survive. Speaking to friends and family will help you identify what you want to do. A career professional can also help you recognize what it is you can do and also explain anything you don’t understand, for example, if you love going to the gym, why not research a career in gym work and have the gym trainer salary explained to you to see if the money matches what you need to live on.
Ice Cream taster
This job is a bit of a ‘Willy Wonka’ kind of job in that it almost seems too good to be true, but it is real, unlike Willy! An ice cream taster has to be one of the best jobs of all time as you basically get to not only test ice creams; you get to create them too!
However, it’s not just a case of turning up to the ice cream lab and making an ice cream. There’s a huge process that goes into developing ice cream such as sourcing current, on trend flavors and making sure they translate into ice cream.
You’ll also need to be able to deal in research and development, marketing and sales plus you need a degree in food science, again from a reputable university, especially if you aim to work in the bigger, well known companies.
Although these jobs are super cool, none of them will just happen instantly and will take a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve them. You also need to be passionate about each of the careers listed as it’s not easy to bluff your way through these jobs.
However if you know you have a passion for a career and have the drive and determination to reach your goal, then the sky really is the limit…especially if you are a travel blogger!
