An Honest Review Of “The Morning Show” staring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and Why It May Not Be Your Cup Of Tea

So this weekend I was sick. I locked myself away in my room to help keep the whole house from getting sick. I decided to watch the much anticipated series, The Morning Show, staring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. To be honest I think this was a great move on Apple’s part. I own an Apple TV box and watch it every night and until this weekend I had never considered getting an Apple TV subscription. So anyway, I signed up for the free trial and set back with my hot tea and was excited to be entertained. But I was shocked instead.

Maybe I didn’t read into the synopsis enough and was not properly prepared. But wow!

So let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of NBC’s The Today Show. It currently is hosted by Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. I was also a fan when Matt Lauer was a host. I’ll never forget the day the news broke of his firing and accusations of sexual misconduct, abuse, and horrible acts. I remember Savannah trying to make it through that newscast and be a strong woman but also real woman that was hurt and mad with all of America.

I said that to say that I relieved that day through this new series. It was as if they took that day and experience and acted it out. It feels like a documentary of what happened with Matt Lauer and the #MeToo Movement.

And y’all, I love documentaries! Crime documentaries are my jam but it is because I know what I am watching is a documentary and was made with the purpose of retelling a story and diving into it. Lifetime movies made from real life dramas are also my jam. I actually watched The College Admissions Scandal on Lifetime this weekend. But again, I knew what I was getting into and it was story I wanted to see played out and the inside scoop, so to speak. However, The Morning Show does not claim to be a documentary or based on real events and yet it is! And it was not something I cared to see acted out in a series. An Honest Review Of "The Morning Show" staring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and Why It May Not Be Your Cup Of Tea

After watching all 3 episodes I will say this is not a funny show. This is not an escape from reality. This is not anything new or beautifully written. So far it feels like a documentary with a twist. I do not see creative writing. I see them taking a story and movement full of controversy and hurt and making it a series. It is hard to watch and I am not sure I want to see anymore.

You must be warned that it is very real and tries to show ALL sides of the story. The accuser and the accused and all of those opinions of others. I felt sick watching it.

The only good thing from the show was the storyline of Reese Witherspoon’s character. A spunky, say it as it is, reporter from a small town, thrown into the spotlight. I did enjoy watching her. She did an awesome job and maybe this series will start to evolve into something entertaining as she and her co host Jennifer Aniston take the host seats side by side. But man, getting to that point was painful to watch.

So this may not be your cup of tea. I wanted to send out a warning of sorts since I was not prepared. This has 2 of my favorite actresses in it and was promoted to be about strong women in control. I actually thought it might be a little funny. But it is not. Not at all. So if a feel good show is what you want this is not for you. If an escape from reality is what you want this is also not for you. I always try to be objective but this one is too raw and too much for me.

Please share your thoughts! I would love to hear!

If you would like to watch, they have released the first 3 episodes so far. You can see full episode schedule here. You can watch The Morning Show via the Apple TV app for $4.99 per month.
