As a dad it is hard to get in a lot of quality time with the kids, but I try. It is a fact that kids love to be active. They love to play hard. Well, dads are big kids right? We like to play hard too.
I am trying to get my health back on track. I am trying to firm things up and start healthy habits that will not only help me be a better dad and live a longer and better life, but also teach them better lifestyle choices. I am ready to stop the dieting madness, and get fit for good.
So as I try to lean down and firm things up, I am taking that time to get more active with the kids. So here are my tips for all the dads out there. A dad’s guide to staying active with kids. This is a great follow up to my wife’s post on how to exercise with kids.
1. Go to the park
This has to be the easiest tip of all. An evening trip to the park is fun for all of us. We can walk a few laps together. Then take time to let them play. We all get out some energy and work up a sweat.
2. Plan weekend trips
This may sound weird. How does a trip help you stay active? Well hear me out. The weeks are hard, but weekends can be fun. Load up the car and head to the beach. Day trips are the best. Just last weekend we took a trip to the beach. A walk along in the sand and jumping the waves is great exercise for all of us. Go to a state park. Go camping. Go hiking. The ideas are endless on the weekends!
3. Evening walks
Sometimes getting in the car and going to the gym or the park are just not an option. That is when a walk around the neighborhood is perfect. The kids can hop on their bikes and you have to keep up!
4. Eat right and eat at home
Food is fuel! We all know that. What we eat matters. We used to eat on the go all the time. I am trying to cook more at home. It is essential to help me stay healthy and strong. I get the little ones involved when I can. The wife loves having someone else take on the responsibility of cooking dinner and so far they have all been a huge hit. I’ll share some of the recipes very soon. I am sure to include fruit, vegetables, and lots of quality protein in my daily diet.
5. Protein, Protein, Protein!
Along with eating right, you need to make sure you have the fuel to do the things you want to do with your kids. EAS Complete Protein products are perfect for dads like me that need simple solutions for complete nutrition and EAS is a great source of Protein. It is delicious, supplemented with calcium, fiber, vitamins, and minerals and it can help you manage your weight and increase your energy.
This stuff is so good, it is hard to keep on the Walmart shelves. This week I had to purchase it online. I try to stay stocked up on both the EAS Complete Protein Powder and the Complete Protein Ready to Drink. The chocolate is amazing.
EAS Complete Protein Powder has sealed top and scoop located in lid so you don’t have to put your hand in the powder – SUPER cool right?
I have a blended drink before work. It is super easy to blend a glass.
I use 8 ounces of cold water, then add enough ice to reach the 10 ounce line. Add my EAS Complete Protein Powder and blend.
And it is good to the last drop.
I have a ready to go drink before our walk in the evening.
And if I have a craving for a sweet treat in the evening I enjoy a delicious Protein Powder Ball. YUM!
