We’ve all heard this said over and over in our lives. I’m sure you have heard it too. “Don’t take no for an answer. “
You want a promotion at work but the company says no.
You want to buy a new car or house but the finance company says no.
You want to have a baby and your body says no.
I get what they mean when they say don’t take no for an answer. But here’s the thing, sometimes we have to take no for an answer. I’ve been told NO more times than I can count in my life. No is always slapping me in the face. Sometimes it doesn’t make any sense. I’ve worked hard or done all that I can do and I feel like I really deserve it.
But let me tell you this. Everything has ALWAYS worked out for the good! Sometimes something even better was around the corner and other times it was just not the right time. I had to wait.
We have 2 ways to look at it.
Timing:
We can accept that we can’t have whatever that is right now. The key being right now. That may mean acknowledging that maybe we are not ready. So we must work harder. Set goals. Work hard and keep working till we reach our goal.
OR
Maybe it is a true matter of timing. And RIGHT NOW this is not the right thing, event, step, place for you. The answer is not NEVER but not RIGHT NOW.
It’s not for you:
Maybe the answer is no because that is not meant to be for you. That thing you want so bad is not what you need. It’s time to reevaluate and head in another direction.
The realizty is we do not know our full story yet. And sometimes the word NO is a blessing and we don’t know it at the time. How many times have you looked back and thought, “WOW! I am so glad that didn’t work out then. If it had, I may not have (fill in the blank) now, or I may not be in this place now, or I may not be in this job, or I may not have found my spouse, etc.?”
There is a greater plan!
God has a special plan for each of us. And sometimes his answer is no. And we must take no for an answer because he’s got this. He knows what he has planned for you is even greater than what you are asking for.
So whether it is a “not right now no”, or “that is not for you no” or just plain “NO!”, You are going to hear the words NO. No is going to happen in your life. And we do have to take no for an answer sometimes. But don’t let it stop there! Keep working towards YOUR goal and what you are meant to have will happen at the exact right moment! Look for the blessing that come in your journey or because of that no. Or make the decision to pursue a new path to reach that YES.
You’ve got this!
