Are you trying to figure out how to make a birthday special during this crazy time when we are all trying to do social distancing? I have some ideas to help!

My girl turned 14 this year! I don’t know how that happened so quickly! I really don’t! WOW! But here we are. She is turning 14 and we are all stuck in our homes. No one can come over. Our family would certainly go over the 10 person limit. So I had to get creative fast.

I am sharing what I did and I hope you are able to use some of these ideas or maybe they will inspire you to do something else I didn’t think of. If I can do this anyone can!!

The first thing I wanted to do was have favors and snacks delivered to our party people. So I these amazing FRIENDS cookies made by my friend Carla of Carla’s Cakes. Everything else I was able to order online to make the cookie boxes. The adults got cookies and the kids got suckers, balloons, and necklaces. I also topped the boxes with party hats and extra necklaces! I wanted them to feel like they were at the party even if they were not.

My husband made social distancing / safe deliveries to everyone.

Another idea is to find a company that could deliver cakes or cupcakes to your friends or family.

Next set up a virtual meeting. You could use Zoom. Skype, Google Hangouts, or look up other online services or apps that would work best for you. Set up a meeting and then copy and set the invite link with all the info to all the people you are inviting with a fun invite.

You could do a simple text invite or use an online virtual card service. You could also make a cool invite on Canva. Just make sure you also text or email that link so they can easily click and join.

Now decorate!

Make it feel like a party for the birthday boy or girl! My son made a fun backdrop to go behind her for the party. It was simply a disposable (Dollar Store) table cloth with streamers and balloons taped to it. So fun!

Then we blew up some more balloon and added the cupcakes that we made. There were way to many for the 4 of us! But hey! We are stuck inside 24/7. They will be eaten. The kids decorated them.

If possible set up 2 devices. One to be set up on the birthday boy / girl and one that the rest of the family can talk on. And tech tip: If you are in the same room be sure if one is talking the other is on mute. DO NOT both be unmuted at the same time or it will give bad feedback.

Now log on and laugh! Play online games. Or just talk all about the birthday boy or girl. If there was time for gifts to be mailed the birthday boy or girl could open them then. We all sang and had her blow out a candle on a cupcake!
