We’ve all seen those trees. The ones that look like they are out of a magazine. I’ve often said how do they do that? Or it must be nice to have money to people do it for you. Y’all know what I am talking about. They are perfectly color coordinated. Each ornament is perfectly placed. The bows are perfect. The lights are all perfectly placed and all working. And there is the perfect star on top of the tree. But you know what? My Not So Perfect Christmas Tree Is Perfect To Me!
Today while drinking my coffee I was looking at our tree in awe! I was in awe of our Not So Perfect Christmas Tree!
We have a prelit artificial sparkling tree. Half the lights stopped working this year so we found some extra lights and scattered them around. My favorite antique lights have some that have burned out. So there are several dark places on the tree.
There are more ornaments on the bottom than top because my son and I did it and we could only reach so high even with a chair. My daughter helped with some of the ones up really high.
While we try to stick to a color scheme there are those that we love that will be on the tree whether they match or not.
The tree came with sparkles and that was a selling point for me! However, we had no idea that meant ever year our house would be covered in actual glitter! I love it and it drives the family crazy.
The handmade ornaments are my favorite. While looking at this handprint of my son from 2011, I realized how much he has grown since then and pretty soon that little hand will be bigger than mine. I hope he still will hold my hand then. But regardless, I will place this sweet baby hand print on our tree. I don’t care if it matches, if it is not part of a theme, or if it is old and faded. It will be there.
We have handmade ornaments from the years and one year we made homemade cranberry and popcorn garland.
Our village is my son’s favorite. The train and the village has to be perfect. And as long as he wants it that is exactly how it will be!
Christmas, to me, is not about looking like the magazines. It is not about trending on Instagram or Pinterest. I will never have that tree and that is ok with me. This is the most magical time of the year and I want to soak up every single piece of magic. I want to see that handprint Santa. I want to see the reindeer made of popsicle-sticks. I want to see the empty top because we can’t agree on a tree topper. That is Christmas to me! My not so perfect Christmas Tree is perfect in every way to me!
