Here we are in a new year. Many set goals. For years I have been creating one word, some set new year resolutions. But I have a new solution- Setting New Year Intentions! Let me tell you how I came to that decision.
So I have been going back and forth about my word for the year. And what I realized that I want to work on so many things. I have only picked one word in the past because it makes it very clear and specific.
- 2021 – Fearless – I kept it because it was still so fitting!
- 2020 – Fearless
- 2019 – Hygge
- 2018 – Intentional
𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿? 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿. Your whole outlook and lifestyle.
So after much contemplation and so many words that jumped out at me. Words I considered: free, open, worthy, listen, bloom, permission, empower. That is a lot right? I couldn’t find just one word that covered it all.
Then it became overwhelming. And we all know what happens when we are overwhelmed! We quit! And I do not want to quit! 2022 is my year of growth, health, making waves, and empowerment and ultimately working on me. Was I wanting to do too much? No!
I am a solutions girl. So I needed to find a solution that allowed me to include all my words. I want to focus on all these parts of me! What is a person to do?
Set intentions! Yes! Intentions for the year! New Year Intentions!
Setting New Year Intentions
How do you set new year intentions for the new year? Well, take all those words and phrases. Some may call them goals. But I prefer intentions. Find broad words when possible that cover several. For example, grow, improve, evolve — those all fall under my BLOOM intention.
Once you have set your new year intentions there are some tips to help make these come to fruition.
First, I combined all my intentions and put them in a visual form and printed it out. It is important to see the intentions every single day!
Next I made a vision board of my intentions. Pictures speak volumes. This is also I something I printed out and have out so that I can see it daily.
Then each and every day look at the intentions. You don’t have to do them all each day. Just pick one that speaks to you that day.
For example, you really want to spend special time reading a book but the sink is full and there is laundry to be done. In that case I choose to use the permission intention to give myself permission to not feel guilty and take time for me to relax and read.
Another example is when there is someone that I know if struggling that day, I would use my empower intention to reach out to them in any way and empower them to do what they need to, or get through the situation, or speak up, whatever that may be.
Does that make sense? Each day find ONE that speaks to you that day. There will always be one. And if not, then pick one that is a challenge. Like do it on my intention list. So on that day I would challenge myself to DO IT – whatever it is that I have been wanting to do, say, try, etc. I will just do it!
In doing one intention each day you will be amazed at how you grow this year. You will have grown in the ways you wanted to. 365 days of doing just one thing. And you will have made a change in your life! You will see it! They may have even become your daily habits.
