Moving day is a hectic process, and usually there’s no way around that. You’re in a rush to pack the moving van, to get the kids ready and strapped into the car, and to ensure the house is clean before you lock it up for good.
And while you’ve got action plans for all of these tasks, there may be some effective, stress-busters you’ve forgotten! But thankfully, we’ve got ideas below that’ll help you to settle in properly as soon as you step through the front door.
Make Sure You Packed Easy-to-reach Snacks!
A moving day bag is a must. You need to have something to drink in there, as well as plenty of snacks, and even some toys and or a handheld console to keep the kids happy (and you when you secretly get bored too!). Pack this the night before to ensure you get everything you need in there; you wouldn’t want to forget about plasters or antibacterial gel, a blanket for the cold morning/evening, as well as any medication you need to take on a daily basis.
Get Connected as Soon as Possible
Unless the stars aligned just right, your new home probably won’t have all the connections you need for a couple days yet. So, what to do? Well, if you weren’t able to move on the day that your wifi or phone line was connected, look into using data or something like a Prepaid Bill to stay connected in the meantime. Hopefully it’ll only be a couple of days before your new signal comes through, but it’s still worth it to make it easy to get online and stay in touch!
Pack the Important Stuff in Your Own Bag
If you’ve got some precious items you’re worried about packing away, such as old jewellery or a vase that’s very fragile, take it in your own car or in your own bag. If it’s there with you, there’s no chance of it getting lost, and you can put your own mind at ease by keeping an eye on it. These older, precious, and sentimental items aren’t going to get broken right in front of you! Just make sure you’ve still used plenty of bubble wrap and duct tape. And once you’re indoors, you can immediately put your precious item front and center.
If you know you’re going back to work soon after your move, it can help to get organized. For instance, you may want to iron some of your work clothes in preparation. Take a look at these ironing tips. If you can put your hands on what you need when you need it, it will make the moving process far less stressful.
Have Copies of Important Data on Hand
For your electricity bill, make sure you take photos or note down the actual numbers and at what time, even with a smart meter. You need to be sure they match up with the final bill you’re sent once you’re connected in your new home! If you can cross reference the records with some official proof, you won’t have to worry about a big money sink opening up in your bank account. Keep these documents on your phone or printed off in a handheld file.
Moving day can stay calm! Use tips like these to get through it and you’ll be golden.
