No matter the property you live in, whether you own it or it’s rented, it’s important you look after it and regularly undertake maintenance tasks to keep everything operating at its best. When we say maintenance tasks, these tasks can be as big or small as they need to be. It could be a small task like repainting your walls, or it could be a big task, such as researching companies like Metro Mechanical Plumbing Services to come in and solve any plumbing issues you may have – the longer you leave them unattended, the worse they can get.
Keeping your house maintained throughout the year may not be the most exciting thing to do, but when you do keep on top of things, you’ll find you enjoy living in your home a lot more, and your overall mental health could improve.
To get you started, here is a quick guide on keeping your house maintained throughout the year. Keep reading to learn more.
Repainting your rooms
A task which is often put to the back of a lot of people’s minds is redecorating and painting in particular. Painting smells, but once you have done it, it can bring a new lease of life to your home – plus it’s affordable to do. Going over your walls with a lick of paint will not only protect them, but it will keep your home looking fresh. Instead of painting in the same colour, why not try something different and recolour your walls? You could go from white to light blue or dark green to dark purple – Pinterest is a great place to look if you are ever after some inspiration.
Checking over your gutters
It is recommended that you check your gutters around twice a year, often in winter and summer. Checking your gutters is important, as you want to ensure you haven’t had any water damage from it being blocked. By checking more frequently, you can clear out any debris before things get worse and cause damage, especially during the winter months, as this is when a lot of moss can fall into them, causing them to block. If you don’t have access to your gutters, because you live in a flat (for example), make sure you reach out to your management agency, as they will be able to get someone in.
Bleed your radiators
As winter approaches, so in Autumn time, this is a good time to start checking your radiators and bleeding them if required. Radiators often need bleeding in the winter months, as during summer they aren’t used, which can cause air to be trapped, reducing how efficient they are. If you have never bled a radiator before, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that you can watch to help you.
What checks do you perform regularly in your property, and why? Which of the above three suggestions do you think is most important? Is there anything missing in our guide that you think we should be adding? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
