1. Olympic National Park – Washington State

The beautiful and diverse Olympic National Park in Washington state is a camper’s dream. There are over one million acres of land to explore with as many as three different and unique ecosystems, including a rainforest.

There is protected wildlife everywhere you turn and over 75 miles of coastline to wander along. Hauling an RV or tent camping has many options as well as several resorts for those who like a more catered wilderness experience.

2. Badlands National Park – South Dakota

Camp among one of the world’s richest fossil beds with ancient mammals like saber-toothed cats, horses, and rhinos is what you will find at Badlands National Park in South Dakota. There is a fossil prep lab that welcomes visitors and shows them how these ancient animals are preserved.

Among the live animals, you will encounter in the over 244,000 acres are prairie dogs, bison, black-footed ferrets and bighorn sheep.

3. Adirondack Park – New York State

The Adirondack Park in New York State is a mix of forest preserves and diverse mountain landscapes. Comprised of both public and private lands, Adirondack Park is not a National Park.

Adirondack Park is larger than The Grand Canyon, The Great Smokies National Park, Glasier, Yosemite, and Yellowstone combined. It contains the largest protected wilderness area East of the Mississippi River.

4. Glacier National Park – Montana

Glacier National Park in Montana boasts spectacular and rugged mountains, pristine lakes, alpine meadows, and beautiful forest lands for all types of adventurers.

The main draw of Glacier National Park is the “Going-to-the-Sun” Road in which you can drive over 50 miles of hairpin turns on mountain roads that will sure to get your heart racing.

There are more than 1000 standard camping sites and an untold number of off-road places to pitch a tent, some near a beautiful body of water.

5. Wyalusing Hardwood Forest – Wisconsin

Wyalusing Hardwood Forest is located within the Wyalusing State Park. This is a “tree hugger’s” dream as there are more trees than anywhere else in the state. This also brings more birds to fill the forest with beautiful songs and help in finding a Zen rather than an exciting adventure. Although, there are plenty of places to hunt and fish within the park.
