Not everyone has a swimming pool or open water spot near them, so it may not be the most convenient form of exercise to take up. But there are loads of fantastic reasons to make the effort and go out of your way for the occasional swim. Here are five amazing benefits of swimming.

It works your whole body

As a form of exercise, swimming is one of the best options you can choose. And that’s because it works your entire body. A good swim will target all of the major muscle groups, including your upper body, legs, and core. You’ll be amazed just how much you can feel the effects of your workout after you exit the pool.

Some forms of exercise can take their toll on your body after a while. Sports like running and cardio workouts are high impact, meaning you are putting a lot of strain on your joints and muscles. You are suspended in water the entire time, meaning there is very little chance of sustaining any injuries. It’s perfect for older people or those who are just getting into exercise.

When most people think of swimming, they imagine someone doing endless laps of an indoor pool. But it is so much more than that. There is so much variety when it comes to swimming, and there are several different types of swimmers out there. Yes, you can stick the heated pool in your gym if you prefer. Or, if the weather’s warm enough, you can head to your nearest beach and opt for a dip in the ocean.
