The Promise: Birth of the Messiah is an animated musical celebration of one of the most pivotal events in all human history, the birth of Jesus Christ. This beautifully crafted musical is a faithful adaptation of the birth narrative from the Gospel of Luke in both story and song. The animated production leverages optical motion technology to blend traditional animation techniques with the performance talents of ballet dancers and dramatic stage actors. The result is a unique and a worshipful story experience that will inspire audiences young and old for years to come.
Why I LOVE it!
We sat down as a family to watch the movie. I assumed it would be like other animated movies and not be interesting to us. I was afraid that my 7 year old would quickly lose interest, as she thinks she is too old for animated shows. BUT I was wrong! This movie captured our attention in the first seconds. My husband, my kids and I were so impressed at the vocals and the visuals. This animation is not like others! The people look so real. The vocals were breathtaking.
Those were just the things that got us excited but the thing that kept our attention was the storyline. This is the story of the birth of Jesus but it is told in a way that I have never seen before. It is in a way that you see Mary and Joseph and real people with real, true emotions. They had doubts and concerns. I laughed at Mary’s parents’ reaction to her pregnancy. That is exactly how they must have felt! I have never thought about them. While it showed parts of the story that we had not thought about or read about before it also incorporated the truth that is in the bible. It did not take away from the written word.
It was so nice hearing my daughter say who the people were and what was happening. For example, when Elizabeth and Mary talk and Elizabeth felt her baby leap. My daughter explained who that baby was and why he leaped based on what she knew from church. At that moment I felt the Bible come ALIVE! I knew she saw what she had read for all these years. But this time it was in a way that was so clear and creative.
