how to blog, how to start a blog, how to set up a wordpress blog, easy wordpressAre you ready to start a blog? After you have read how to start a blog and have your vision, name, and preferences all lined up, it is time to get started. I am going to show you how to set up a WordPress blog in an hour! Let’s do this!

I am going to talk about some tricky things, but stay with me. You can do this!

First things first. Did you grab a domain? If not, go back here and follow the instructions on finding a and securing your own domain. I HIGHLY recommend using the same company for hosting and your domain. It makes things a lot easier later! Trust me! I use GoDaddy for one of my sites and HostGator for the other. Both are good but HostGator has better and fast customer service.

Now that you have a domain that is all yours, we are ready for our next important step.

Find a Host:

For true performance, security and expertise, make sure that you sign up with a reliable hosting. We recommend HostGator. That is who I use for this site and have had good experiences with them . Use Loveandcents to get 25% off your hosting. It is as low as $3.96 a month! Go here to get that set up.

GoDaddy makes it easy to set up a blog in minutes using their domain and hosting resources.

There are other options out there. I can not recommend others as I have always used these hosts. Feel free to do a quick Google search for website hosts.

Connect your domain name and hosting.
Now you have a domain and host. What now? We need to put them together. Again, I recommend using the same provider for both. Most have a super quick walk through and set up once you purchase from them. Purchase your domain and host and it will help you launch your site from your control panel.

If you choose to use Google or someone else as a domain provider and a separate host you will need to get your Name Servers or DNS for your site from your hosting company. Insert the given Name Servers info into your domain name registrar account. You need to do this to ensure the domain name is associated with your hosting. Note: You can skip this step if you purchased your domain with the hosting company.

Install WordPress
Many hosting companies offer easy way to install WordPress in 5 minutes or less. If you’re using GoDaddy or HostGator, you can install WordPress easily right from your control panel. Each is a little different, but they do a great job of walking you through each step.

GoDaddy will allow you to choose WordPress and it does all the leg work for you in just minutes. Then you will go and set up your theme, title, and start blogging.

HostGator has “QuickInstall”. Click on “Get started with WordPress today” in your control panel. It is super easy and painless.

Cutomize WordPress

Here is the FUN part! Make the blog reflect your personality! There are so many options!

  • You can choose a theme that is already loaded in your WordPress dashboard. Go to themes. Pick one. Activate. Then customize it.
  • You can search for free wordpress themes. Download one you like and upload it to your themes in WordPress. Activate. Customize it.
  • Create a custom worpdress blog on a budget like I did.
  • Use PicMonkey, Photoshop, or other graphic software to create custom headers, designs, etc. to add to your site.
  • If you don’t have the time, find a designer and let him/ her do the work for you. I used RL Web Design in the past and he is AMAZING. Tell him you heard about him here!

YOU DID IT! You set up your own WordPress Blog! You are ready to start posting!
