My husband’s family is part Irish and so my husband likes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. I try to take each new holiday / event as an oppertunity to teach and do something fun with the kids. This year I had a new idea that I was very excited about! I wanted to create Shamrock Shape Bean Bag/ Ball Toss. It was so much fun I wanted to share it with you! You can see the whole expereince in a Whrrl here .
What you need:
- 2 Elmers Foam Boards 20 x 30 x 3/16
- Green Colors or Markers
- Numbers 1-7
- Super Strong Glue
- Box cutter / sharp knife
- Pencil
- Small Ball or Bean Bags
- Small Glass
Step 1. Gather your supplies
Step 2. Outline the Shamrock Shape
Step 3. Use box cutter/knife to cut out the shamrock (My husband helped with this)
Step 4. Find a small glass and trace for the hole shapes (Tip: Find a glass that measures a bit larger than the balls you are using) I choose to do 7 holes.
Step 5. Use the box cutter/ knife to cut out the holes
Step 6. Color the Shamrock green
Step 7. Add numbers 1-7 to the holes- I used bright colored sticky numbers from the art supplies section at Walmart. You could also write them on with a wide marker.
Step 8. Make the stand using the second Foam Board
Step 9. Cut 2 pieces about 3 x 20 in (You can use 1 or 2 for added stability)
Step 10. Add strong glue to the end of the piece
Step 11. Attach and hold. (We only used 1 piece)
Step 12. ENJOY! Object of the game: The first person to get to 10 points WINS! This is a fun way to get the kids to have fun with math. We also discussed the meaning of the shamrock and St. Patrick’s Day.
