While visiting Grapevine Texas we spent a little time exploring the little town of Grapevine. We discovered downtown Grapevine and found some treasures while exploring. There was a Farmer’s Market, Chocolate, Snow Cones, restaurants, resale shops, and more. One of our favorite discoveries was a restaurant called Tolbert’s. It caught my eye because the full name was Tolbert’s Restaurant and Chili Parlor. YUM! I love good Chili. So we did our usual and googled it. The menu included homemade chili, chicken fried steak, hot dogs, and more. All things that we love! So we gave it a shot and I am SO glad we did. I had to share this amazing restaurant with you!
Tolbert’s Restaurant and Chili Parlor History
Frank X. Tolbert’s life-long passion for chili inspired him to write his world-famous book “A Bowl of Red” 50 years ago. He founded the Terlingua Championship Chili Cook-Off in 1967 and joined forces with son Frank 2 in 1976 to open the first Tolbert’s Restaurant in Dallas, with daughter Kathleen helping manage starting in 1977. Kathleen, with her husband Paul Ryan, selected Grapevine’s historic Main Street as the new home of Tolbert’s in 2006. The tradition continues as Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor features classic southwestern cuisine with our signature Bowl of Red, using the same recipe developed by Frank X. Tolbert and his son. – taken from Tolbert’s.com
My first thought was this guy knows his chili. I HAVE to try it! I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but here in the south Chili is a big deal. We attend Chili Cookoffs and love trying different styles and flavors.
I ordered the Texas “Bowl of Red” Chili with 10 alarm sauce on the side. I ended up adding all the sauce for awesome flavoring!
Very rarely do we find a place where everyone leaves completely satisfied and thrilled with their full bellys. But that is what happened when we were done at Tolbert’s! We were all stuffed and SO happy with our food.
Joel got the Chicken Fried Steak, Emma got a hamburger, and Jaxon got Mac and Cheese. All was sooo good!!
Service was top notch. Our server was awesome.
I highlight recommend visiting Tolbert’s when passing through or visiting Grapevine Texas! Let them know I sent you. 🙂
