Dark Mode Off / On

As the days become brighter and longer, it is time to start thinking about preparing your garden space to be enjoyed by the whole family this summer. Getting outside is a great way to spend your time, boost morale and improve mental and physical health. This can often seem like a daunting task to do, which gets left to the last minute. But with the right knowledge, you can prepare your garden in no time.

Here are some top tips to help you get started.

#1 Declutter your garden

The best way to get started with preparing your garden is by decluttering. This will leave you feeling like a huge weight has lifted off your shoulders, and hopefully leave the rest of the work to seem like a lot less. Clutter in the garden can be hazardous, unattractive, and make there seem like there is a lot of work to do. Go around with a bin bag or a wheelbarrow, and start to clear out all of your old, unwanted and broken items in the garden. Take them down to the tip, or give them to charity if they are still in working order.

#2 Get rid of weeds and trim your shrubs

Getting rid of dead leaves, overgrown shrubs and unsightly weeds can instantly turn the appeal of your garden around. It’s not always the most favorable job to do in the garden, but one that needs to be done. This task will make the garden look tidier, and help the rest of your plants to grow better. Now would also be the best time to hire a tree service, if you need it.

#3 Plant new bulbs

A garden can look much nicer when it is blooming with a variety of plants and colors. There are a wide range of different plants that you can choose from, such as Angelonia, Fuchsia, Gerbera Daisies, Limelight Hydrangeas, Clematis, Rose of Sharon, and much more. You may also consider planting trees that will provide your family with well-needed shade

#4 Check, clean and fix your equipment

Whether you have a shed full of gardening tools, a lawnmower, a water pump, a swimming pool, garden furniture, or children’s gaming equipment, it is important to check they are clean, in good repair and working order. This important task will ensure they have not become a hazard while neglected over winter and are safe to be used, especially if you have children and pets who will be using the garden. If anything does not appear to be working properly, make sure you take time to get them fixed. You will be able to find a lot of common cleaning solutions and equipment fixes online, such as water pump problems and solutions. In other cases, you may need to replace the equipment entirely. This will depend on the importance of the equipment to you and your garden, and whether it has become an issue. For example, a working lawn mower is important to keep your garden in good condition, and a clean swimming pool is vital for your health.

Preparing your garden by making it safe, and attractive means it can be utilized in the summer months for your favorite hobbies, games with the children, and bonding for the entire family.
