Summer is here! Can you hear all the children playing and parents going crazy? Well, they are around here. My wife and I decided that this year we would take a road trip. Sounds like fun, right? It will be once we get on the road. But first there is a lot of planning going on. Here is my version of a dad’s guide to planning the perfect road trip.
Decide on a destination.
Sounds crazy, but this was a hard thing for us. Would we drive along the coast to Florida? Visit our old house in Louisiana, or would we stay in Texas?
Prepare the car.
This includes a lot of things. Let me break it down for you. Make sure your car is in tip top shape. Both of our vehicles are high mileage cars. My wife’s car is much better on gas, so we are going with that. I am supposed to be in charge of all the maintenance and upkeep of her car. She refuses to do those things. But, I was not born with those handy skills. I sure don’t have a lot of time to spend on taking care of the car.
Want to know a secret? I get it all done at our Walmart Automotive Care Center. That’s right! No wasted time sitting and waiting. I drop it off and start checking off my honey to-do list.
Walmart Automotive Care Center has my back. They get me, and don’t judge that I am a dad with a secret. The first time I visited they went a step further and told me about Pennzoil High Mileage Vehicle. Pennzoil High Mileage Vehicle helps to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. It’s a motor oil that is specifically designed for new or late-model vehicles with over 75,000 miles, to help keep the engines running clean and going strong for a long time. Sounded good to me.
He went on to explain that I wanted the ultimate treatment that would help the car run better, this is the one that I needed. Pennzoil is designed for complete protection and will allow you to drive an extra of 550 miles per year vs. a dirty engine. No other motor oil provides better protection from friction. AND Pennzoil offers a free warranty that covers 15 engine parts that may fail due to engine wear or which experience abnormal wear due to friction. (For more information, check out the Pennzoil High Mileage.) YEP! That is the one I wanted. But what would it cost me?
He then went on to tell me that it was totally affordable! It sure beats a breakdown and the repairs that would come with that. And the torture of an upset wife. I was sold! I have been using it ever since.
And lucky me, from June 10th – September 9th, Pennzoil oil changes will be on Rollback at Walmart ACC {Automotive Care Center} stores.
- High Mileage $35.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $39.88. {Industry standard price is $46}
- Platinum Full Synthetic $45.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $49.88. {Industry standard price $66}
They checked out everything, including the tires.
While they get the car fixed up, I take care of the honey do list. Sunscreen, check. Magazines, check. Ibprofen, check. Snacks for the road, check. In and out! That is what I like! And the car was waiting for me when I checked out. Seriously, my wife is going to think I am the man!
Then I took the money I saved and get a car wash! I mean the full package. The inside and the out. Isn’t she pretty!
Pack the car.
Back in the driveway, I start packing.
Always leave out things to entertain the kids and wife, while packing. There is a special bag for each kid, and one for the wife.
Music
This is for me. Dads, you understand!
Maybe this will keep them happy and quiet. Could I be that lucky? At the very least, I know the car will run smoothly during the trip and I will be riding in style!
And we are off! On the road! Everyone is happy! Happy Family means a Happy Dad!
