Drawing For Kids Inspired by Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days Movie
Plus: Healthy Snack Ideas
Are you and your kids excited about Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days hitting theaters this week? WE ARE! My daughter and I have read all the books together and so we are especially excited to see this movie based on books 3 and 4 of the series. Last week we read through book 3 again and it was just as cute as the first time!
My daughter has been counting down the days to the release of the movie. I thought it would be fun to have the kids create pictures similar to the ones featured in Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. The images are so cute and unique. I love that this series of books offers these very creative illustrations. My kids always have something to say about the pictures. For that reason I decided to make that our project for the week.
I started out by asking them each to draw a picture of each member of our family. I picked up some sketch paper and colored pencils for them to us. I encouraged them to tell a story with their pictures just like in the book.
They did just that! I have to share these images with you. Pretty good I must say! Keep in mind these are created by a 2 and 6 year old.
We enjoyed some Del Monte fruit cups while working on these projects. They love these fruit cups especially during the hot summer days.
I wanted to suggest that you have these Del Monte fruit cups on hand when heading out to the theater to see the movie. These are the perfect healthy snack to have before a movie. It is always frustrating to me that there are so few healthy options at the theater for kids. Fruit Cups are a great option!
You can also take along some other healthy snacks options to add to the fruit. My kids like graham crackers with fruit. I like yogurt and fruit cups. YUMMY!
I have an inside scoop to share with you! DOAWK has a facebook contest that will be live any minute. If you do this project with your kids be sure to enter your picture on the Diary of Wimpy Kids Facebook Page. There will be lots of great prizes!

You have the cutest kids! What fun drawings…yours looks MUCH better than the drawing my kids did of me!
I have never tried the yogurt and fruit cups…. it seemed weird that they weren’t refrigerated.
