I love chalk paint projects! I have lots of frugal furniture finds that I want to make beautiful again. However I can not pay $39 for 1 quart plus the supplies and extras! I decided to try a DIY Homemade chalk paint recipe. It is easy and works great! I feel like I achieved the look that I wanted to with this DIY chalk paint at half the price!
I did some research and could not find the ingredients anywhere of the special Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I started thinking about other items that may work and came across Plaster of Paris. And thought why not?
Here is my homemade chalk paint recipe.
I purchased the Plaster of Paris from the craft section of Walmart. You can also find it here. I also got 2 small cans of the Color Creations paint from Walmart. It is the premixed and ready to go paint that comes in several colors. I got the satin white and grey. Then headed home and set up.
To make this DIY Homemade Chalk Paint I combined paint and plaster. The measuring size that I used was 1/4 cup Plaster of Paris and 1/2 cup paint. Just keep the ratio 2:1.
The went back and added more plaster to get a thicker mix. You can add a little water if you need to.
I found these tables at a resale shop for $5. I knew I had to get them and work my magic on them.
Start with one coat of the white. Let it dry. Then repeat with a second coat.
I did some gray areas as accents.
So that’s it! See the bed that I put the table next to? Overall I think they turned out great. I would like to add a little wax to protect and beautify it too.
