Galveston Pleasure Pier - Family Friendly Fun - Tickets, Events, History, Rides, and More!

Galveston Island is one of my favorite places! I have shared how it is my happy place before. So when the kids finished school we wanted to celebrate with a trip to our beach. I am always looking for fun things to do in Galveston with kids. We have a new favorite place – The Galveston Island Pleasure Pier! The Pleasure Pier in Galveston is a perfect spot for kids and families to spend hours and have lots of fun!

Disclosure: We were invited as the media to attend. No monetary compensation was received and all opinions are honest and my own.

This pier has memories for me but not as Pleasure Pier. Growing up this pier was the home of the Flagship Hotel. It was a one of a kind hotel over the Gulf, staying open for over 40 years. It remained open until September 13, 2008 when Hurricane Ike made its final landfall near Galveston as a strong Category 2 hurricane.

Shortly after that, Landry’s, Inc. announced what was to take it’s place! Landry’s vision recaptured the site’s original purpose as a pleasure pier, a preeminent destination venue for family fun. The Pleasure Pier opened in May of 2012. This multi-million dollar family destination brings the glory of Galveston’s famous history into the present with fun for young and old. Focused on waterfront fun and entertainment like no other Gulf Coast destination, the Pleasure Pier features family‐oriented attractions including 16 rides, midway games, retail shops and a wide selection of food venues, including Texas’ first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Rides:

Texas Star Flyer: Riders will take flight on this towering swing and be suspended more than 230 feet above sea level while rotating through the sky. My husband and daughter LOVED the view from above the water!

Pirate’s Plunge – The kids will love splashing into the refreshing water in the Pirate’s Plunge especially on the hot summer days!

Revolution – The Revolution offers an intense ride that soars 60 feet in the air while in rotation. The 20-seat
ride creates a sensation of flying across the water while rotating nine times per minute. My daughter loved this one!

Cyclone – Test your courage on our 60-foot tall looping coaster ride. Go head over heels at 25 miles per hour while rotating forward and backward. This mama’s heart dropped each time my daughter went round and round! But she LOVED it!

Rock N Roll – Hold on tight while riding forward and backward in a circular motion at ever increasing speeds while rockin’ to music in a cool car. This one was right up my alley! I rode it several times!

Galaxy Wheel – This was also one that I loved! It was so beautiful taking in beautiful view of the island from the sky!

Bumper Cars! Who doesn’t love bumper cars?!?!

FOOD, FOOD, and MORE FOOD

The food! It was great! And affordable! I was thrilled to see my favorite – The Funnel Cakes! YUM!

They offer souvenir bottles and popcorn buckets with 99 cent refills! Perfect for those who will be there for hours like us! Don’t worry about when you are ready to ride. They will let you keep your items safe in a cubby while you ride. Don’t forget to grab it when you exit the ride!

Games!

There is always time and room for games! My husband is a huge fan! You guys….He won me a FISH Beany Baby. AWWW!

TICKETS:

There are several options! You can pay per ride with a Pier Walk-On Pass to gain access to Pier OR if you want to check out everything you should get a pass and enjoy them all! We loved the pass because we could ride our favorites as many times as we wanted! Find out more about which pass or options are best for you here.

Before you plan your trip. click here for Hours.

TIPS:

TIP– Measure your kids! We found out right before we left that my son was 50 inches so he was in the 48 inches and up category! I had no idea he had grown so much this year! But fyi- They will also check each person before they enter each ride to double check that they are tall enough. There are Military and Veteran discounts available!

TIP — Visit on a weekday. We visited on a Monday afternoon/ evening in the summer and the crowds were so small! We were able to ride several rides more than once! No long lines!

TIP– Before you leave, make sure you have everything you need. The philosophy check twice comes into play here! Because there’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination and you’ve forgotten something super important. Make a list of everything you need before you go, and tick it off once it’s packed. Trust us; it’ll help! And if you’re visiting from outside the US, check https://usa-esta.com to see if there are any entry requirements you need to meet.
