Practice Mindfulness

If there is one practice that you should consider taking on board in order to gain a better and fuller control of your own mind, it has to be mindfulness. There are a lot of ways in which this word is used and abused, but in truth mindfulness means that you are attending to what is going on in your perceptual reality with equanimity, clarity and concentration. If you do that as a regular practice, you’ll find it uniquely empowers you to manage your own mind in a way that nothing else can. Be sure to start up a mindfulness practice if you don’t have one already.

Make Friends With Your Mind

It can be all too easy to think of your mind as the enemy, especially when it does seem to cause you so much trouble all of the time. But the mind is just doing what it thinks it needs to in order to keep you alive and surviving, and you should try to make friends with it and find peace with it in some way if you possibly can. You’ll probably find that this makes an enormous difference to your overall level of happiness, so that alone is a great reason to do it.

Overcome Bad Habits

The ability to not engage with bad habits that you might have is one of the strongest signs that you are in control of your mind, but it is of course very hard to do. It’s all about practice, and you may as well start small with some kind of habit that you would like to get rid of, but isn’t exactly an addiction. You can then move on to things like alcohol treatment or similar challenges, as necessary. Overcoming bad habits empowers you to gain control of your mind in a very alluring way.
