What do you do with the kids when they are home during the holidays? Around here the kids are always bored. To put a stop to that I set up a Gingerbread house making station for all the kids during the holidays. This is fun for kids and adults. Here is a fun and easy way to entertain the kids for hours. Try this DIY Gingerbread house making station at your next holiday gathering or for your kids at home.
We went shopping at Walmart and gathered the standard supplies and many not so standard items to create the Gingerbread houses. We wanted to be very creative.
There was a demo at select stores this past weekend. My store didn’t have it up, but many stores did.
The base and most important thing you will need out of these house supplies are the Honey Maid graham crackers. They are essential!
Some fun things to use to decorate your houses are listed here. We avoided chocolate and nuts because of allergies. A great place to look is the baking or candy aisle in Walmart.
- Cereal
- Bags of wrapped candy
- Twizzlers
- Sour Gum Drops
- Icing- Lots of icing (White for the glue and other colors for decorations)
- Gummy Bears
We set up a few different stations:
- A building station
Use the icing and Honey Maid graham crackers to create your houses.
You may need them to sit for a while to harden. While waiting for the icing to dry you may find it helpful to have small cups help give support.
The harder the icing is, the easier it will be to decorate.
2. A decorating station
One thing we learned was, if you load it up with too many decorations your house may collapse.
3. A finishing station
This is a fun time to make decorations around the house. We used coconut to make snow. Try using blue icing for water and graham crackers as a bridge or rocks in your water.
Here is a short video showing how to make a simple gingerbread house from the Honey Maid graham crackers.
It was so easy and fun.
Have you ever made Gingerbread Houses from Graham Crackers? What would you put on your houses?
How fun that you set up a whole station for the decorating! I made one of these houses with my son this weekend, too, and we used fruit and nuts on ours! [client]
