eye exams for kids and my daughter's first glassesI started wearing glasses in 3rd grade. I remember thinking everything looked so blurry. I wondered why other people were not talking about how blurry everything was. Was it just me? Well, I remembered that recently when my daughter came home and said the same thing. After asking some questions I knew it was time, past time really, to go see the eye doctor.

An eye exam is just as important as a physical yearly exam. Did you know that the simple vision screening is not enough? A vision screening (whether conducted by a primary care physician, a school nurse, or in a community-based setting) is not a diagnostic process and does not replace a comprehensive examination by an eye doctor.eye exams for kids and my daughter's first glasses

I was excited to partner with Visionworks and the Let’s Go See movement because I am passionate about eye care and our kids. Let’s Go See is a national movement to raise awareness of the importance of annual eye exams for children as part of their yearly health routine.eye exams for kids and my daughter's first glasses

Visionworks and Davis Vision are giving away 10,000 comprehensive eye exams and complete pairs of glasses to children in need.

Our goal is single-focused: we want children to get annual eye exams. Every child. Every year.

    • Take the pledge to get your kids an eye exam every school year, starting this year! It’s as important to their health as annual physicals and dental exams. Parents can take the pledge here .
    • Help a child in need. Visionworks is giving out 10,000 vouchers good for a free eye exam and glasses. If a child doesn’t have vision insurance or Medicaid, aren’t signed up for ACA and can’t afford an eye exam and glasses, or if you know of a school or organization that has children who could benefit, nominate them for a free voucher at http://www.letsgosee.net/help/. Nominations can be made in English or Spanish.

An eye exam may be the simplest test kids ever take. It’s certainly the most important for helping shape their future outlook.

Signs that your child might have trouble seeing:

    • Headaches and dizziness
    • Squinting
    • Holding books close to their face or too far away
    • Sitting close to the TV, computer or tablet
    • Twisting or tilting their head to favor one eye
    • Frequent blinking or rubbing their eyes
    • Inability to judge distance properly (bumping into things)
    • Decreased performance in school and athletics

We did it! We went in for an eye exam. My girl was great. She did the eye puff and was even dilated.

Then we got the news that she definitely needed glasses and she needed to wear them full time.eye exams for kids and my daughter's first glasses

We walked nextstore to Visionworks and were welcomed with open arms. Seriously they were amazing. My girl had no idea what she wanted. She didn’t know where to even start looking at the frames.eye exams for kids and my daughter's first glasses

The customer service girl was so sweet and asked about what she liked. Colors, designs, size, etc. They quickly narrowed down what she would like. And had fun trying on different frames.eye exams for kids and my daughter's first glasses

It didn’t take long for her to find the perfect pair!

  1. Awww she doesn’t look happy about the eye dialation (I personally do not like this either) but she looks super cute in her glasses!

  2. She looks beautiful in her new glasses! I’m passionate about this topic too. I grew up in a tiny town where the school nurse did eye exams each year using the SAME eye chart for all 10+ years I went to school. I was led to believe I had 20/20 vision and was devastated when in my final year of college finally had an actual thorough eye exam completed and learned I needed glasses. It’s awesome you took your daughter for an exam and empowered her with clear vision!
