Dark Mode Off / On

Ok I admit it I am a bit spoiled. Or maybe it is just that I am a HUGE fan of modern technology. I love the dish washer, washing machine, dryer, water heater, etc. You know the things that would have been luxuries for our grandparents? Today they are so common that we think we NEED them!

Well this weekend our dishwasher was giving all the signs that it was sick. And today it finally died. 🙁 We called Sears because we bought it there 4 years ago and paid for an extended warranty. Well as you would expect our warranty ended 6 months ago. ( It always happens that way!) And to add a new warranty for another year would be 250! Well  I may be a SAHM now but I have been in accounting for 9 years and so the first thing I did was “the math.” $250 for 1 year warranty OR around $350 for a brand new dishwasher. That does not make sence.

Since I am not working anymore we have cut back alot and live on a budget. This means we can’t buy a new dishwasher right now. This brought me to think…

“IS this a necessity? We of course not. Our family would be no worse off without a dishwasher!”

It is grounding and eye opening when something that you think you NEED is not available and you realize you DO NOT NEED IT! This was a great lesson for me today. It was so much more than being about a dishwasher. It was a reminder about how you can make lemonade from lemons. :). I have started a “dishwasher fund”. Because even though I do not need one –I would still like to have one! 🙂 It will take a little time to save up. But untill then we are making it an opportunity for family fun!

This may be a blessing in disquise. 🙂

  1. I don’t use the dishwasher. I just feel like I can wash the dishes while cooking or shortly after finishing the meal. But if I had it and it went away, I’m sure I would miss it like crazy.

  2. You know I do not have a dishwasher. When we bought the house there was one but it was broken. Never replaced it. When I remodel my kitchen I will have one. But we handwash and use disposable more than not. It is not a necessity for me 🙂
