Dark Mode Off / On

This week I am reading “A Still and Quiet Soul” by Cathy Messecar. Cathy is one of my favorite speakers and writers. Having known her family growing up  I can say with confidence she means what she says. She is a good Christian woman who is an encouragement to women worldwide!

I was introduced to A Still and Quiet Soul by Cathy Messecar last year in a bible study at church. I loved it! When a visitor joined our class I gave her the book and have been wanting to get my hands on a new copy ever since and this month I did! As I read through it a second time I was encouraged just as much, if not more, than the first time.

When I hear the words “A Still and Quiet Soul” I think peace, a flowing river, a house in the woods, quiet and everything being they way I would have it. What do you think of? This book may be what you need!

Book Description from Amazon:

With an easy-to-read style and biblically founded truths, A Still and Quiet Soul helps readers cultivate contentment in life even in the midst of chaos. Life is chaotic. Schedules, stress, and strife can quickly spiral out of control leaving us frustrated, exhausted, and angry. But God wants more for us. He wants us to be content. In A Still and Quiet Soul, Cathy Messecar encourages the pursuit of God and one of his promises–contentment. She shows how to adorn one’s life with contentment and anchor one s days with joy. Each chapter ends with a personal story of how God brought contentment to people like a next door neighbor, coworker, grandfather, aunt, or sister. Designed as a study book for individuals and small groups, especially women’s Bible study groups, A Still and Quiet Soul uses Bible stories, personal anecdotes from the author, and testimonies from ordinary Christians to help the reader identify with the challenge of being content in feast or famine.

As a mom living in the midst of the everyday chaos that includes being a wife, mom, full time employee and business owner. I will say that I have been in a place of major discontent in my life. For example, when I was working full time outside the home I was very discontent and it showed in all areas of my life. In reading A Still and Quiet Soul I realized that there are things that are bringing me that discontent feeling. And in order to be completely happy and productive I need to make changes.

This book is a wonderful tool for helping reach that point in your life where you can experience contentment. One example is cleaning out the “junk” in your home. I never thought about all the things sitting around the house or cluttering the garage as being a cause of some of my stress. But BINGO! That is a major source of stress for me! There are so many more that she hits in this book. With tools on how to reach a peace in these areas. They are not just her tools but GOD’S TOOLS that he has given us!

This book is laid out so well! She starts each chapter with scripture and ends with things to ponder. Each chapter includes a story of someone just like me and you! I loved these stories that reminded me that sometimes something like an obsession with a washing washing can lead to discontent. That is so true! Have you ever found yourself saying “When I have ….I will be happy” ? I have! And guess what? When I have …I move on to a new “When I have…I will be happy.”

One part of this book called out my name. It included these words:

Early on, some families train their children to go, go, go. But, in that situation, when do children get opportunities to develop Christ-like disciplines of solitude and silence? Do we set a pace for peace? How do we encourage them to be happy travelers when their loads are too heavy?

DING DING DING! Another big thing for me. STOP and ENJOY each moment! Though I feel like these days of diapers, whining, bathing, homework, softball practice, sleepless nights and SpongeBob will last FOREVER they will not! I want to look back and REMEMBER these moments. I want my children to remember a mom who was happy no mater what the situation. I believe that will lead to happier and healthier children as well as a happy and healthier ME!

So who needs this book? Everyone who has ever felt stress, worry, a deep need for more, the living for the one day attitude, and just about everyone I can think of. It s a book you will not be able to put down. I recommend reading one chapter a week. Work on that chapter if it is something that touched your heart. Then when you are ready move to the next. You can read one chapter in a short time which is why it is perfect for moms like me living this chaotic life that I talked about. I cried and laughed out loud when I was reading “A Still and Quiet Soul”. It hit on all of my emotions which makes it an A+ in my mind. That is why I recommend this to you all!
