The quickest way to get into a holiday spirit is to decorate the home. If you are on a tight budget right now, you may wonder if you have to forget decorations this year. However, although some decorations are costly, there are many ways to cut these costs and still transform your home for any holiday.

Halloween is a popular time for decorating the exterior of the home, and the interior if you are hosting a Halloween party or have children. There are many decorations that are electrical or battery-operated, but you do not need these to create a spooky feel. Cheap decorations and homemade decorations work just fine.
Halloween home décor can range from comical, kid-friendly and cute to hauntingly spooky. No matter which style you choose, your first stop should be a discount store, such as a dollar store or 99-cent store. Places like this carry fun yet inexpensive Halloween decorations. Look for a bag of fake spider webbing, for example. One bag goes a long way after you stretch the webbing out – and a few cheap plastic spiders. Spider webs should be one of the first things you put up if you are going for the spooky look.
Make miniature ghosts: purchase a box of white nose tissue, a bag of small rubber bands, and a felt tipped marker. Wad up one sheet of tissue for the head. Wrap another sheet around it, securing it around the “neck” with a rubber band. Draw dots for eyes and a circle for the mouth.
Christmas Ideas
Most people wait to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. That doesn’t mean you should wait to buy decorations, however. You’ll often find early bird sales of decorations prior to November. If you have waited too long and most stores are no longer running these sales, your first stops again should be discount stores that sell items for a dollar or less.
Christmas trees are usually pricey. Real trees cost the most, as you must replace them yearly. If you really do not want Christmas without a real tree, go for a small one and place it on a table. You will still get that Christmas tree scent and get to decorate it, but it will be less expensive than larger trees. An even cheaper option is to purchase a Norfolk Island pine or two. These are potted plants that you can decorate just like a Christmas tree and they make a nice plant addition to your home all year.
