Hate your vinyl floor? Did you know there is an easy and cheap fix. Here is how to install vinyl peel and stick flooring in one day and on a budget!
So it was 2020, the year of quarantine, and I was losing my mind so I decided to take out my anger on my bathroom. I have hated that vinyl flooring for years! Our house is about 16 years old and this ugly linoleum vinyl shows it. I decided to tear it out!
Here is are a few before pictures.
Then I gathered my supplies. Here is what you need:
- Blade / Box cutter
- Goo Gone Adhesive Remover
- Scrapper
- Mask
- Peel and Stick Vinyl Tile or whatever peel and stick flooring you choose. There are lots of options. I purchased mine at Lowes for .89 each. Measure your room first since it is sold by the square foot.

Then I started tearing out the floor!
Let me tell you this was so therapeutic! AND GROSS!
There were some challenging areas so I used the scrapper and box cutter to help a lot. Make sure to wear a mask because it will get dusty and who knows what is under that floor.
Once all pulled up I used the Goo Gone spray. I saturated the floor and let it sit according to the directions. Next I used the scrapper to get all the adhesive off. This was the hardest part but the spray helped so much. You want it smooth and clean for your new flooring. So once you have a smooth surface you want to sweep and sweep and sweep some more. Get all the dust up.
Once you are all cleaned up get out your peel and stick flooring. I started in one corner of the bathroom. I laid out all the pieces the way I wanted them and made sure I had extra for the edges and hard areas like the toilets since this had a design to line up.
Now I will say having a design did make this more challenging. So even though it is beautiful just know it takes patience to line it all up especially when you get to the edges.
Literally all you do is peel and stick. Press down with pressure.
I absolutely LOVE how it turned out! It is stunning! The photo below does not show the edges totally finished but this was what it looked like after 1 day.
I have had it down since March and it has held up beautifully. No issues at all!
Next up I want to paint those hideous cabinets! 🙂
