weight loss bible study body imageWelcome to my 30 day Weight Loss Bible Study. I will talk about what the bible says about body image, weight, healthy living, addictions, and the flesh. Read all of the weight loss bible study here. Today is day 2 and I am taking a look at scriptures about body image.

Body image is a hard thing. As humans, as women we are so hard on ourselves. We criticize one another. We criticize ourselves. We are never happy. I have battled my weight since I was 18 and went off to college. That is when it started. To be honest, before that time I felt confident. Or course I had things I didn’t like about myself– like my nose. But overall I loved my body. And then life happened and the world’s ideas filled my head.

How do we learn to see ourselves as God sees us? I have picked out some scriptures about body image. This is how God sees us. This is how WE should see us!

Let’s start with the creation of man and woman.

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

He made us in HIS image. This means so much. What do you think of when you think of God? Do you see a beautiful, magnificent, perfect being? That is what I think of. I think of the most creative artist of all time. A loving, kind, and perfect father.

If we are made in his image, then we should also feel beautiful, creative, perfect, and magnificent.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:13–14

scripture about body image

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

He created us each without flaw, just as we are. It a science that I could never understand. He took the genes of my mother and father to create a face and body that is completely unique. Each one of us is one of a kind. There is not another person in the world, in the past or in the future, that will be like you. Your unique personality. Your unique smile, cry, personality. It is all unique to you. And he HE picked them out just for you.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

“Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3

He spent time on creating you! With all the things in this universe that God has to work on, he spent time on YOU. He knows the hairs on your head!

He made you perfect in his eyes. When we step back, and think about how he sees us, how can we not love our bodies? The body that he created! Everything he makes is perfect. That means YOU are not a mistake. You are perfect. You are a masterpiece.

This is something that I have to work on daily. When I see my body, I see a fat girl. I see a flawed girl. Those are things that he did not make. I made that happen. But if I look deep in my eyes, I can see her. She is there. I need to let her out and let her shine.

I will dive more into this over the next 30 days. Please join me on this weight loss bible study. It is hard! It hurts. It is nasty. But in the end of this 30 day journey I hope we all come out stronger and healthier spiritually and physically. Will you join me?
